The Community Outreach & Education Program (COEP) of the Center for Research on Environmental Disease (CRED) develops educational materials and programs to inform students and adults about the risks, etiology and prevention of environmental disease. Public education and outreach has a critical role to play in communicating not only the Center’s research findings but also in providing practical translation of this data into accurate, trustworthy and useful information about risk reduction and disease prevention.

The Goals of the COEP are:
  1. To provide resources, educational materials, career development programs and general support to the K-16 educational community, including students, teachers and administrators, in order to enhance environmental health science (EHS) education and to encourage healthy, risk-reducing lifestyle choices.
  2. To contribute to increased understanding of the causes and prevention of environmental disease through translation of research findings for the general public and advice to policy makers.
  3. To effectively evaluate programs, curricula and activities to assess their usefulness and guide revisions in order to better meet the needs of target audiences.
